American Swagger The 2014 Corvette Stingray—the most powerful base model yet

We have but two words: Hell, and Yes. Let’s cut to the chase. This is the 2014 Corvette Stingray, the most powerful base model Corvette ever. It is set to hit America’s roads later this year after an unveiling at January’s Detroit Show Auto Show and it’s the first ’Vette to wear the Stingray moniker in 25 years. Horsepower? That’s estimated at 450bhp. Zero to 60? Under four seconds. We like.

The 2014 Stingray packs an all-new 6.2-liter V8 that combines direct injection, Active Fuel Management, variable valve timing and an advanced combustion system to deliver more power while using less fuel. The interior features carbon fiber, aluminum and hand-wrapped leather. A new seven-speed manual transmission anticipates gear selections and matches engine speed for perfect shifts.

The body is all performance. Lightweight materials—carbon-fiber hood and roof panel; composite fenders, doors and rear quarters; carbon-nano composite underbody panels; aluminum frame—shift weight to the rear for optimal balance. The track-ready Z51 Performance Package will include a limited-slip differential, dry-sump oiling system, integral brake, differential and transmission cooling, as well as a unique aero package to further improve high-speed stability. Top speed? We’ll have to wait until the Stingray is unleashed upon the public in the third quarter of the year to find out.
