Dressed for Excess The Bentley Grand Convertible is an iron fist inside a couture glove.

When Bentley describes one of its new offspring as its  “most sophisticated open-top car ever created,” wise drivers sit down, pour themselves a generous brandy, and listen. Meet the Bentley Grand Convertible. It is opulence on wheels.

In practical terms, it’s a Bentley Mulsanne minus a couple of doors, plus a convertible hat. Under the hood—or bonnet, if you speak Bentley—is the Mulsanne’s 6.75-litre twin-turbo V8, good for 530 horses and 811 lb-ft of torque. In every aspect, it’s fancy. The Sequin Blue color was originally a bespoke tone created from a single sequin plucked from a customer’s haute couture gown. Expect Bentley Mulsanne-like pricing—north of $300,000—when the Grand Convertible goes into production in the coming months. Give your accountant a polite heads-up today.
