My Favorite Things Pro surfing star Sally Fitzgibbons shares the passions of her life

Career Moment: Qualifying for the world tour. I didn’t think it was going to happen that fast. But I did a lot of preparing, traveling and gaining experience.

Meal: Spaghetti Bolognese. You can get it everywhere in the world. I eat it in Portugal all the time.

Mode of Transportation: Jet Ski. When you’re surfing, it’s a lot of hard work, so it’s great just to be able to jump on the Jet Ski and go.

City: Lipson, Portugal. The people are cool, the vibe is cool, the food is great, and there are beaches everywhere. I’d love to come visit New York sometime though and check it out. I think I would like it a lot.

Book: Twilight. I’m a total sucker. I was like, I’m not going to like that, and then whoosh, I got right into the suspense of it.

Quiet Place: Indonesia. Whenever we’re competing there, and we go traveling on the boats, it’s so beautiful.

Musical Artist: Beyoncé. She’s a great dancer, and she has that little bit of attitude that’s edgy and terrific.

Drink: Red Bull! They’ve been a great sponsor for two years now. Everything Red Bull does they do it big!

TV Show: Friends. I watched it growing up, and it’s still funny. You can just watch them over and over again.

Movie: The Peaceful Warrior. It’s about a gymnast who has been injured and he’s talking to his conscience. I love lots of movies- sports stories, action and comedies, but I don’t do horror!

Guilty Pleasure: Eating chocolate cake. And watching Free Willy. I don’t really tell anyone but I still watch it often. It’s so good, I still cry.

Gadget: My Swiss Army Knife. I travel so much, and it’s so useful whenever you need to peel stuff or whatever. It’s not very good to travel with. Every once in a while I forget it’s in my backpack, and the airport security people say “What are you going to do with this?” I’ve been through three of them now.

Karaoke Song: The Climb by Miley Cyrus. I think I’ve only done karaoke twice now, so maybe I’m not the best person to ask

Holiday: I love Christmas. As a surfer, I’m usually traveling for two months and then I get to go home right before Christmas. Although I have to say, I’ve done Thanksgiving now in Maui the last few years, and that’s great. Anything with good food is a great holiday!

Charity: I do some things with Camp Quality. They are an organization in Australia that helps teenagers recovering from cancer. They set up camps so that kids can have fun and the families can keep their spirits up.

Vacation Destination: Maui is really relaxing and the waves are great. As surfers, unlike everyone else, we tend to get away from the beach when we have some time off, check out some waterfalls and read. Maybe swim in some fresh water for a change.

Thing To Do With My Family: Every year, for my birthday, which is right around Christmas, my family and I have a go-kart race. I have three other brothers so the six of us race. I haven’t won it yet. Last year, I lost by a tenth of a second, which was devastating. You would think they would let me win because it’s my birthday, but my brothers are so competitive. One year, they made me crash out into the gravel!

Thing To Do With Friends: Actually, surfing. It’s a cool way to hang out with a group of people and actually spend time together in a fun place.

Thing To Conquer Boredom: There is a game called Doodle Jump that you can play on your phone. You have to get this character up all these platforms without falling. When I’m sitting I the airport, I’m always playing it.

Article Of Clothing: My Kobe Bryant jersey. I became a Lakers fan after spending so much time in Hawaii. Basketball in the US is played at so much of a higher level than it is back home in Australia. After watching the Lakers play, I was hooked.

Thing To Collect: Surfboards. I’ve lost count. I think I have about 40 or so now. It drives my parents mad because they are all in the garage. Their car has to stay outside now.
