Carissa Moore Hanging for 10 with the pro surfing champ

Carissa Moore

Where were you born?

Honolulu, HI

When and where did you start surfing?
I was about four or five years old at Waikiki beach with my dad.

Was there a moment that you knew you wanted to be a pro surfer?

When I was about ten years old I remember telling my dad that I wanted to be one of the best surfers in the world and I wanted him to help me do whatever it took.

What is your greatest attribute as a surfer?

My creativity. I love playing around with what I do on a wave. I also think that having an amazing support system in my friends and family is an amazing attribute in my surfing career.

Where is your favorite place to surf?

Mexico. I love the long, perfect, playful right hand point breaks.

What is your favorite career moment?

Winning my first world title in 2011. That moment of getting to wave the Hawaiian flag over my head and hug my dad real tight knowing that we did it was super special.

You recently filmed a documentary in Panama with Red Bull. What was the experience like?

It was an amazing experience. It was so eye opening to see how the people of Guna Yala live and get the chance to learn first hand about their beautiful and unique traditions. One of my favorite moments was watching the women make and apply their make up. They had to grind a seed and combine it with water to make a black liquid. They then used a sharp stick to draw a line down their nose. It was stunning.
