Golf Travel: Eye of the Tiger

The first Tiger Woods designed course is just one of many reasons to visit Diamante Cabo San Lucas.

Winter is coming, and that can only mean one thing—we need to find some warmer places to play golf. That’s why we’re planning to head south of the border to experience the top flight golf available at the resort of Diamante Cabo San Lucas.

From it’s debut in 2009, golfers have been making the pilgrimage to Diamante to test their skills on The Dunes Course—a Davis Love III-designed masterpiece that may very well be the best golf experience that Mexico has to offer. The front nine holes will give players plenty of decisions to make as they avoid the hazards to approach the greens. Once you make the turn, you’ll be treated to some of the most extraordinary panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean that a golf course has to offer.

As though The Dunes Course wasn’t enough of an attraction, in December of 2014, Diamante added El Cardonal, the first course design by Mr. Tiger Woods himself. Named after the tall cactus that populate the region, El Cardonal is a 7,363-yard par 72 course that winds its way through the dunes and dry creek arroyos to make for one of the most picturesque golf settings in North America.

Woods’ design emphasizes giving golfers plenty of options, so strategy comes into play pretty quickly on the course. “I set up the golf strategy to make golfers think and make choices,” Woods has said. “Regardless of your handicap, there are going to be different ways to play every hole.”

To play both courses, you’ll have to become a member of Diamante, which many golfers have already done. In addition to the golf, the resort has a state of the art fitness and spa facility and a pristine lagoon for swimming, sailing and kayaking. Members can also ride horses on the beach and through the trails along the dunes for one of the most scenic private beach experiences you will ever have.

Every detail is tended to with extreme care at Diamante, right down to the blades of grass on the fairways that are so well kept, you’ll think they aren’t real. But the experience is almost unreal, and plans to get even better, as another Tiger Woods designed course is on its way.
